Morcha will go it alone, Not AAP neither Congress: Manpreet

Manpreet Singh BadalVirtually shutting the door on the possibility of an alliance with the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) chief Manpreet Singh Badal on Wednesday said the Sanjha Morcha would go it alone and field its candidates on all 13 seats in Punjab.

“We are going ahead in the parliamentary electionsalone, without any alliance,” Manpreet told HT. Sanjha Morcha is a fledgling conglomerate of the PPP, the Left parties and splinter Akali faction led by former chief minister Surjit Singh Barnala. The Morcha had first tested its political strength in the 2012 Punjab assembly polls, but had drawn a blank.

Denying the possibility of an electoral truck with the Congress, Manpreet said his endorsement of Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa’s legal battle for a CBI probe into the drug racket should not be construed as the Morcha’s overture for a poll alliance. “We are not shopping for any pre-poll pact,” he said, adding, “Our politics will not compromise on the ideological course that we had adopted at Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s native place.”

Badal admitted that talks between the PPP and AAP for a poll alliance had been futile.
