AMRITSAR: In wake of Saharanpur clashes, the Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh has directed to cancel all panthic conventions scheduled to be held in Amritsar and Karnal. The directions were issued by Jathedar on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports of violence in Saharanpur.
“Every Sikh is worried over the new emerging troublesome happenings , the incident of Sararanpur has only aggravated our worries and have posed another serious challenge before panth” said Gurbachan Singh while talking to TOI. He said at this time he felt that every effort should be put to prevent any conflict like situation in the panth.
Violent clashes broke out in Saharanpur between two groups over a Gurudwara land dispute leaving two persons dead.
“Being religious head of community and Jathedar of Akal Takht, I direct all the concerned parties to immediately cancel their proposed conventions being held in Amritsar and Karnal ” said Jathedar of Akal Takht.
Notably SAD(B) had called for a Panthic gathering to contemplate over preventing implementation of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Act 2014 at Amritsar on July 27th and in retaliation the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had convened another Panthic convention at Karnal on July 28th. SAD(A) led by Simranjit Singh Maan had also convened a Panthic convention at Amritsar on July 27th aiming to prevent Sikh’s from fighting with each other.
Gurbachan Singh said “later all the concerned organizations , Sikh intellectuals and various representatives of community could sit and contemplate over the issue to find an amicable solution under the aegis of Akal Takht”.
