In a new terrain

Mishwa Bajwa

In the  “I crave for creativity. After reaching the top level in my last job, it was time to discover a new side to myself on a different terrain,” says Misha, based in SAS Nagar. Her interest in acting was evidently at its peak, so much so that she left her job as the programming head of a city-based radio station and TV channel to play Gurpreet Ghuggi’s wife in the film.eight years that she worked as a TV anchor and media professional, Misha Bajwa was advised more than once to try her hand at acting. The pretty lady didn’t take the advice seriously then, but when Punjabi actor-comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi offered her a role in his production — the recently released Punjabi film Bhaji in Problem — she knew it was time.

A beauty with brains, Misha says Bhaji in Problem gave her the perfect launch pad in the Punjabi film industry. “It was a decent role to make my film debut with. While everybody is going gaga over comedy films, my character wasn’t entirely comic,” she adds. If you think she looks a bit chubby in the film, the actor tells us it was intentional.

“Ghuggi ji wanted the gharwali (housewife) to be a little chubby and the other wife to be slim. So, I ate like a mad woman and put on eight kg. After the shooting wrapped up, I lost 14 kg in three months. You can’t afford to live with those extra kilos when you are a part of an industry that judges you on the basis of how you look,” says Misha, a former

national level volleyball player.

Having worked in almost nine organisations in eight years, Misha says she made a move whenever the urge to try something new nudged her. “My jump was never for money. Whenever I felt stagnation coming in, I preferred to move on. That’s how one explores oneself,” she says. Also a Canadian citizen, Misha says the proudest moment for her was interviewing American astronaut Sunita Williams for Asian Television.

Next, Misha is exploring Telugu cinema, for which she is also taking lessons in Telugu language. “The shooting of the film starts in January. I have always been a great fan of South Indian films. In fact, my favourite actors are also from there,” she says. What about Punjabi films? “Post Bhaji in Problem, I have bigger dreams and am waiting to play a strong character,” she says.
