Cricketers must concentrate on their game: Harbhajan

LUDHIANA: When cricketer Harbhajan Singh visited Ludhiana on Wednesday, he was bombarded with question about the recent spot fixing scandal in Indian Premier League (IPL).

Harbhajan initially chose to play the hardballs with silence, but later replied with a curt ‘No comments.’

As the unrelenting reporters increasingly demanded a response, Singh gave in. He finally said that the game should be cleaned and players should concentrate on their game.

Harbhajan Singh visited the city to inaugurate Encore Gym and Spa on Mall Road. He added that he wanted to open a cricket academy in Ludhiana for budding cricketers if he got the support and cooperation of the authorities to provide land.

Harbhajan further said that the state government should concentrate on the formation of a sports university so that all games could be promoted.

Responding to another question, Bhajji said, “A gymnasium is very useful. Youth should join gyms and avoid drugs.”

Meanwhile, Gagan Ajit Singh, former captain of the Indian hockey team and presently a selector of the hockey team, was the guest of honour during the opening of the gym.

Singh said that the hockey team is performing well adding that players should be given a chance to play continuously for four-five years in the team.

He added that there should be more opportunities for players as there is no dearth of facilities.
