Aarti Chhabria talks about her upcoming Punjabi debut Viyah 70 km

The latest entry from Hindi cinema to Pollywood, Aarti Chhabria says she has definite plans to “stick around” in the region’s film industry and make a mark. “It is growing and I see opportunity here,” she says. Aarti, along with the team of her upcoming Punjabi film Viyah 70 km, toured Ludhiana and Chandigarh for the film’s promotions.

Playing the female lead in Viyah 70 km, Aarti says she did not find much difference between shooting for mainstream Hindi cinema and the Punjabi film. “We wrapped up the shoot in 40 days. Everything went as planned and quite smoothly,” she says, adding, “Though I must admit that shooting in places such as Phagwara and Jalandhar was fun. Playing the role of a prospective bride, I felt I was getting married everyday.”

Aarti is not unfamiliar to these places, visited as she has many a times in her childhood. “My maternal family is from Phagwara, so I have visited and stayed in these places a number of times,” she shared.

An Ohri and Batra Productions venture, Viyah 70 km is slated for a September 13 release and also stars Harish Verma, Punjabi singer Geeta Zaildar, Binnu Dhillon and Jaswinder Bhalla besides Aarti. It has been directed by Mushtaq Pasha.

Talking about her Bollywood career that largely revolves around cameos or roles in multi-starrers, the Miss India Worldwide 2000 says she is quite satisfied with the projects that she has been involved with so far. “I made a debut in Bollywood with a cameo in Rajkumar Santoshi’s 2001 film Lajja. But, the highlight of my career remains my role in Awara Paagal Deewana with Akshay Kumar. I have been doing something or the other always. For instance, I participated in TV reality shows Khatron Ke Khiladi and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa,” she informs. Aarti was last seen in the 2010 film Dus Tola, in which she starred opposite Manoj Bajpai.

The actress says she is now trying to add a new dimension to her career by banking on her recent degree in filmmaking that she earned from the US. “I wanted to move behind the camera. I haven’t given it a shot yet, so let’s see how it turns out,” she adds.
